Don't despair.  We'll get it going.   Smiley

Let's just turn off your UAC.  This is a feature of Windows Vista that prevents unauthorized access to your system registry.  But you can turn it off temporarily to get some programs installed.  Here's how: 

   1. Open Control Panel.
   2. Under "User Account and Family settings" click on the "Add or remove user account".
   3. Click on one of the user accounts, probably yours.
   4. Under the user account, click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
   5. Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
   6. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
   7. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.

Once you've done this, double-click the T.A. Toolbar setup icon again and it should fully install.  Note that the first time you run it you won't be prompted for your activation code.  Close the program (and MS Word) and then re-open it--then you will be prompted to enter the activation code/transaction ID #.

Once you're all good, go back through the steps above and re-enable your UAC.

Okay. I tried that, and it still does not work?  What are my options now?   i'm really at a loss because i really wanted to start using the program this weekend, but as i stated previously, i can't even open the program.   Is there a refund if the program does not work?  I didn't know i would have so much difficulty dowloading a program....

You may not necessarily be the adminstrator, even if it is your home computer, and you own it, etc.

In any case, you can try the registry change procedure.

Ellen,

The problem is actually Vista's security.  You cannot install a program like T.A. Toolbar unless you have administrative rights on the computer.

It is recommended that you log off and have the administrator of the computer do the installation for you.  Or the administrator of the computer can grant you the rights.

Alternatively, if you are proficient in the use and understanding of computers, you may be able to make an update to your system registry yourself so that  you can continue to install T.A. Toolbar.  However, making changes to your system registry can damage your computer if you make a serious mistake.  It is customarily recommended that you exercise caution if making such changes by first making a backup of your registry and saving it on a separate computer or thumb drive.

If you choose to edit your registry yourself, do the following:

1. Open the registry.  Go to START and type in regedit in the Run window.  Once the registry is open, go to File and choose Export.  Save the exported registry file to an external device of some kind.

2. Locate the registry key mentioned in the error message (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\TAToolbar\LicenseData) by opening the appropriate branches of the tree hierarchy in the left-hand pane of the registry.  When you find the key, right-click it, and choose Permissions.

3. Add yourself to the Administrators group or give yourself "full control" so that you have read and write access to the registry.

4. Close the registry.

5. Try re-installing the T.A. Toolbar setup file.  (That is, double-click it.)

I must remind you that T.A. Toolbar, LLC, is not responsible for any adverse changes to your system or its registry, should you make this change yourself.  It is generally best to the have the computer administrator install the T.A. Toolbar software.

  • Second, what version of MS Word are you running?
  • Third, were you able to successfully use the trial version of the software before your purchase?

Once we get this information, we ought to be able to figure out what's happening.  Wink
